Do Full Mouth Dental Implants Hurt?

Many of my new patients (and current patients) ask if full mouth dental implants hurt. My answer is…usually not!

Since the jawbones have few nerve endings, the placement of dental implants causes only minor surgical discomfort – perhaps equivalent to having a tooth pulled. Most of my patients only need Advil or Tylenol after the procedure! Just as with any surgery, there can be some discomfort.

dental implant My meticulous surgical techniques aid in decreasing pain after the procedure. Technique and skill of the implant dentist is one of the main factors in decreasing pain during and after.

Anesthesia and sedation are used to eliminate any discomfort at the time of the full arch dental implant procedure. The majority of my patients have this procedure done while they sleep. Most patients report that they were much more comfortable FOR DAYS AFTER the procedure than they had anticipated. They tell me “I thought that was going to be so painful!” I will prescribe medications to ease any discomfort that may occur.

At my practice in Burbank, most patients having even 8-14 dental implants at one time have very little pain. I have many “tricks” to make this procedure pretty easy so you don’t have to worry whether or not full mouth dental implants hurt!
