Burbank Dental Implants – Correcting a Collapsing Bite Problem

It is a fact that if you just lose even one tooth, two bad things will definitely happen:

1.    Your other teeth will move

2.    Your bone in the area of the missing teeth will shrink (Bone loss -Atrophy)

Here is an example:

RIGHT

The line depicts the straight line where all the teeth should be relatively even with.  Because she lost the lower teeth, the upper teeth moved down.  This really made her smile look unattractive making her show too much gums.

I placed dental implants for her on the lower jaw and “leveled” the upper teeth with new crowns and a gum surgery called “crown lengthening.” This is a surgical procedure that I do in my office in Burbank on a routine basis.  Sometimes the natural teeth need to have root canals in order to shape the teeth back level with the others or else the tooth nerve chamber would be exposed in the crown prep.

In her case the bone graft was done in stages and the implants were placed at a later date.

I was able to make the lower teeth look a bit more real for her by using pink porcelain on the crowns to mimic the gums around the two implants. The upper crowns are all porcelain and do not contain any metal.

Besides the level bite, the gumline is now even giving her a great smile! A level bite using dental implants, crowns and/or braces is really important to a good final result.
