What Is The Best Dental Implant?

dental implants Burbank CA There are approximately 150 different dental implant manufacturers. Luckily, most dental implants are well made. The best dental implants are manufactured to very strict tolerances such as airplane engines would be made.

All root form dental implants are made of titanium. Some implants differ in the type of titanium alloy used.

Some dental implants are much better in the long term than others. This difference has got to do with the ability of the implant to maintain the high bone levels over the years.

Much more important than the implant itself is the skill of the dentist placing it. Equally important to the surgical placement is the HOW the teeth are made on the implants. Making teeth on implants is very different than on natural teeth.

If I had to weigh the importance it would be:
5% — type of implant
95%— skill of the surgeon and quality of the final teeth.

Be sure to really check out the implant dentist’s experience.

This is an analogy my father told me:
It only takes one five cent nail to fix a badly leaking roof. It takes a good roofer to know where and how to place that nail!

The best implant is one that is placed well!

  1. Hi Doctor,
i am very lost and have 2 questions PLEASE.

    1) my Dr is suggesting a technique called the SMOP technique in which he uses a guide in the mouth and a 3D scanner that guides him more where to put the implant. he is also telling me that he’ll use the CAMLOG implants. what do you think of the SMOP technique and of the quality of the CAMLOG implant?

    2) my bones are weak, so we’ll need to make a bone graft in order to place the implant. but everyone is telling me that after placing the bine graft, the Dr should wait 3-4 months before placing the implant. The Dr is telling me that he’ll be placing the bone graft AND the implant ON THE SAME DAY. Is this applicable or there isn’t any technique that allows him to do so?

    THANK YOU SO MUCH

    • Not legal in the USA to give a warranty. If you think about it-you really cannot warrantees or guarantee any body part to last. I am not a big fan of that particular system, but the skill and reputation of the dental implant dentist is by far #1!

  2. Hello Dr Ramsey,

My dentist offered me a choice among four implant brands: Paltop, Zimmer, MIS, Nobel Biocare. This is for two lower left teeth all the way in the back. Do you have a preference among these brands based on your experience?

    Thanks in advance!

      • Did you list Zimmer, MIS, and Nobel Biocare in the qualifications order you’d use with your patients? If not, can you please share with us: of the aforementioned implants, which would be your 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices, in that order? Thank you very much, Doctor!

        • If none of the aforementioned implant companies are not at the top of your list, would you please share those company implant names, in ranking order of your personal choice? Thank you ,again doctor!

          • The best dental implant would be one that your dentist has a high degree of success with for more than 10 years. If they have been using the same system for a decade with good success and then they know the intricacies of that system and how well it performs.

I prefer an implant that has grade 23 titanium and either a conical or internal hex connection depending on the depth, location and purpose of the implant. I use different implants for full arch replacement versus single/multiple teeth. You cannot use the same implant everywhere. I know I did not answer your question exactly but I would focus more on finding an expert in the field rather than the brand of implant which is not really important.

I would steer you away from a grade 4 titanium implant with a conical connection in the molar region. These dental implants can break more easily!

  3. Thanks you for the amazing amount of helpful information that you publish on this site! I am in need of two dental implants. I have received a quote from a reputable oral surgeon for the placement of Schutz implants. However, upon checking with other offices, it seems that no one else is using that brand. Does this limit me to working with this office only if future problems arise? Do you advise seeking the placement of a more popular brand?

    • If I have not heard of these so I would not have them. Most implants nowadays are good but there are much better brands.

The most important part is technique on the part of your surgeon but you do need a decent implant too!

    • More important than the dental implant itself is the skills, experience, training in judgment of the dental implant dentist in placing the implant. There are about 10 good dental implant manufactures and you have already mentioned two of them.

There are some really cheap implants that are made in foreign countries that I would not suggest.

  5. Good information you have provided in this article. Dental implant treatment is done to save the loss of teeth that has been decayed or damaged. After dental implant surgery the tooth works same as of original tooth.

    • Hi Arifin,

Even though there are about 500 dental implant companies, and there are about 10 dental implant companies that control the market. These 10 dental implant companies all make very good dental implants.

Much more important than the actual dental implant, is the skill, training, experience and judgment of the implants surgeon and restorative dentist. Ideally that person is one in the same. Choosing the right person to do your dental implant is far more important than the implant itself. 99% of all implants are made of titanium. They vary in their thread pattern, connection, surface and a host of other things.

  7. That’s a good point, but the eternal question:
How can you know if the one your are choosing is a good surgeon?
I have worked in medicine for years and they things I’ve seen are scary.
Many of these doctors still get referrals all the time
    Awesome blog!
